Our History
In 1999 Ron Cathcart had a desire and passion to start a church. As Ron and his wife, Debi sat in their living room with four other couples, yellow legal pads and pencils in hand, the brainstorming began. How do you start a church? Where will we meet? What do we have to buy to get things off the ground? There were a lot of questions that needed answering. Little did they know that meeting would be the start of the 2Rivers Church we know today.
Pastor Ron had a timeline for getting the church started, but so did God. Want to guess which plans prevailed? God and His plans were moving along at a faster pace than anyone could have anticipated. So much so that 2Rivers first met in an unfinished basement with a homemade banner taped to the bare concrete wall that read "2Rivers Church." Music came from one guitar (with no sound system) and if you wanted to sit, you brought your own lawn chairs from home! In all its simplicity, there was an enthusiasm and excitement about what God might be up to at this new church called 2Rivers.
It wasn’t long before we outgrew the unfinished basement so we prepared to move to a local middle school for our first public worship service. We bought our first trailer to transport all the “stuff” needed to be a “portable” church. We bought everything you need to provide excellent childcare, we made a stage out of 2X4s, plywood and carpet, and we borrowed a sound system. Early on the morning of April 25, 1999 we backed the trailer up to the back doors of a Bryan Middle School and got busy transforming a gym into a worship center. Then we waited and wondered if any one would show up. And they did! We numbered 165 people that Sunday, but in case anyone is counting, one dog ran across the parking lot too! And while we were excited with the number of people who showed up, we were most excited about the sense that God was up to something big. Thank God, the vision was becoming a reality.
2Rivers Church has now moved to a permanent location at 88 Hubble Drive with services being held every Sunday morning. We look forward to ministering to the community all throughout the week. We are growing and expanding. People invite friends, co-workers, family members and neighbors…and they come. We will keep on having honest conversations from the Bible about what it means to have a meaningful relationship with Christ that affects your life on a daily basis.
